Wehr Wednesdays #74

A new word or phrase from the Hans Wehr dictionary, every Wednesday.


لا جرم lā jarama surely, certainly, of course


Root: ج-ر-م

Page: 144*

Example: “لا جَرَمَ أَنَّهُ جُزْءٌ مُهِمّ”

Translation: “there’s no doubt that it’s an important part”**

** I translated لا جرم as “there’s no doubt” in the example sentence because the negative construction in English mirrors the Arabic, so the original structure is reflected. However, you could equally say “it’s certainly an important part”.
