I n three Tuesdays it’ll be autumn—but no one has time to dwell on that because, here in London, we’re being pulled into the swell of a fifth heatwave and our fridge is still full of pink-red watermelon.
So, we’re still firmly in الصَّيْف (summer). And that reminds me of last month’s dictionary find. And it also reminds me that it’s been around one-and-a-half years since I began working with a fellow Arabic enthusiast and app developer on a new project.

Early last year, I started working with Ahmed (ArabyBuddy’s thinker-upper and founder) to develop the language-learning journey for an AI-powered app designed to help learners of all levels develop fluency in Arabic.
An app that you can speak to, and one that responds.
Oh, and with it, you can practise MSA, Levantine, or Egyptian. (More dialects coming soon, right Ahmed?)
ArabyBuddy is a platform where you can get live feedback on your speaking skills in real-world scenarios, earn xp through bite-sized lessons, and watch and listen to videos featuring AB’s unique characters. And there’s games designed to improve your Arabic skills.
