A new word or phrase from the Hans Wehr dictionary, every Wednesday.


مرتع marta’ pl. مراتع marāti’ 2 rich grazing land, pasture; fertile ground (ل for; fig.); breeding ground, hotbed (of vice, of evil, etc.)


Root: ر-ت-ع

Example: “أَصبَحَ مَرتَعاً لِلعَداوة”

Translation: “it became a breeding ground for hostility”
