Wehr Wednesdays #59

A new word or phrase from the Hans Wehr dictionary, every Wednesday.


استعصى عليه اللفظ (lafẓ) the words died in his mouth, he couldn’t bring himself to speak


Root: ع-ص-ي

Page: 723*

Example: “أَشرَفَ عَلى قَولِ شَيْءٍ ما في تِلكَ اللَّحْظةِ، لكِن اِستَعْصى عَلَيهِ اللَّفظ”

Translation: “he was on the verge of saying something in that moment, but he couldn’t bring himself to speak”
