Example: “أَشفَى بِها الخَبَرُ على حافّةِ اليَأْسِ لكِنَّها كانَت مُصَمِّمةً على أَلّا تَستَسلِم”
Translation: “the news brought her to the brink of despair, but she was determined not to give up”
Notes:
- The form IV verb أشفى / يُشفي means “to be on the verge or brink of”, but when combined with the causative بِـ, it comes to mean “to bring (someone/something) to the verge or brink of”
- So the root ش-ف-و is another one we could have added to the post Four Arabic Roots to Express the Phrase “on the Verge of”!
