كل يبكي (يغني) على ليلاه kullun yabkī (yuḡannī) ‘alā lailāhu everyone sings to his own tune, does as he pleases, follows his own fancy

Example: “ماذا عَساي أَقول؟ كُلٌّ يَبكي على لَيلاه”

Translation: “what could I possibly say? Everyone sings to their own tune”


Notes:

  • We find this phrase under the name ليلى in the dictionary, and—as you might have guessed—the phrase is a reference to the story of Layla and Majnun!
