جعل زوبعة في فنجان (zauba’atan) to cause a tempest in a teapot
Root: ف-ن-ج-ن
Page: 853*
Example: “!لا تَجْعَلْ زَوبَعَةً في فِنجان”
Translation: “don’t make a storm in a teacup!”
Notes:
- In American English, the phrase “tempest in a teapot” is used, while British English uses “storm in a teacup”—both mean to blow something out of proportion
- Before the word فنجان in the dictionary, we find its word twin فِلجان, which is apparently used colloquially in the Levant. Both are supposedly derived from Persian!
