A new word or phrase from the Hans Wehr dictionary, every Wednesday.


شيئا بعد شيء or شيئا فشيئا (fa-šai’an) bit by bit, one after the other, by and by, gradually


Root: ش-ي-ء

Page: 579*

Example: “كانَ يَضْمَحِلُّ شَيْئاً فَشَيْئاً”**

Translation: “it was gradually fading away”
